RED TELEPHONE BAND
The Welsh trio and their new track: "I'm Always Thinking About You" It was released April 24th - soon on the TOP lists of Music:Response Radio
Red Telephone are a three-piece from Cardiff who formed in late 2017. With a sound that has been compared to the likes of Suede, MGMT, Syd Barrett, St Vincent and T-Rex, the band’s first three singles have already received enthusiastic support and airplay from DJs such as Amy Lame, Huw Stephens, Janice Long, Bethan Elfyn, Adam Walton, Jim Gellatly and Charlie Ashcroft. There is a timeless quality and other-worldly melancholic sadness that hangs on every passing note from Cardiff's most exciting psychedelic night urchins, who have brought a distinctly modern approach to all that was good about British psychedelia yet defy categorization, instead boldly pushing sonic and stylistic boundaries. Their latest single, ‘I’m Always Thinking About You’, captures the disorientation of a new infatuation and delves into the mental anguish and uncertainty that accompanies it. The track brings together the immediacy of classic song-writing with weaving, angular guitars and instantly memorable rhythmic hooks.
Red Telephone played FOCUS Wales Festival in May 2018 on the BBC Broadcast Stage in what was only their third gig at the time and were singled out off the back of it as “having the potential to soundtrack a generation" by Drowned in Sound. Their second single ‘Victoria Park’ was released through Libertino Records’ Ghost Disco singles club and they played Tallinn Music Week in May 2019. All Red Telephone songs so far have been recorded in Cardiff and are produced by Steffan Pringle (Estrons, Adwaith and Himalayas).
Airplay includes Amy Lame (BBC 6 Music), Huw Stephens (Radio Cymru/BBC R1), Adam Walton (BBC Introducing Wales), Bethan Elfyn and Janice Long (BBC Radio Wales), Jim Gellatly and Charlie Ashcroft (Amazing Radio). Blogs including Drowned in Sound, Gigwise, Little Indie Blogs, Turn Up The Volume, God Is In The TV and Unique Lullaby.

PRESS:
“They have the potential to soundtrack a generation.” – Dom Gourlay, Drowned in Sound
“Veers between being a paranoiac industrial rock hammering and shimmering, escapist 60s psychedelia.” – Gigwise
“That sounds momentous to me. The imagination is bubbling over the sides of the recording, it cannot be contained. I love the
way the singer sounds a little bit like Marc Bolan, he’s got that real sense of wonder and playfulness in his voice.” – Adam
Walton, BBC Introducing Wales
“Great Welsh psych.” – Amy Lame, BBC 6 Music
“I was enchanted by some Syd Barrett-like reminiscence of childhood psychedelia, and traces of a very young Brett Anderson. Also, they seem to have the quintessential Welsh-ness, i.e. trippy psychedelia in them.” – Ingrid Kohlta, Tallinn Music Week
“It’s so psychedelic, like something that’s been recorded in the middle of the sixties, but new!” – Huw Stephens
“I was struck immediately by Declan Andrews’ voice, working somewhere in that Bowie/Bolan range, though I think Andrews has a sharper ear for vocal melody.” – Austin Town Hall
“Amazing voice, great production.” – Janice Long, BBC Radio Wales
